Embrace the Wild Soul of Etna

Trekking & Food Pairing: Etna DOC Wines

Our Nature Experience is an invitation to step outside the ordinary and immerse yourself in the raw beauty of Etna. Here, every path, stone, and whisper of wind tells a story of this ancient volcano.

Mount Etna is a living volcano that has shaped itself over countless eras, changing and evolving into what we Sicilians simply call “A Muntagna.” Climbing its slopes reveals one of Etna’s true wonders: its ever-shifting vegetation.

As you walk higher, the landscape transforms from shady oak and chestnut forests to fragrant patches of holm oak and Spanish broom. Higher still, larch woods and other conifers appear, giving way at 2,000 meters to surreal open fields of ancient craters dotted with wild herbs like camomile, sweet William, dock and tansy. A fairytale scenery that changes colour with every season.

Programme Highlights:
1st part: Meet in Zafferana Etnea, a charming village on Etna’s slopes. We follow the SP92 road to reach the start of the “Donkey’s Back” trail — an easy trek of about 1h30m through larch woods and wild bushes, ending at the Valle del Bove, where we explore the unique volcanic features of this breathtaking geological formation.

2nd part: Continue towards Rifugio Sapienza for a closer look at the Crateri Silvestri and the dramatic 2001/2002 lava flow that reshaped this historic refuge area.

3rd part: Head down to Get Your Etna (800 m a.s.l.), where green forests give way to lava fields formed by the 2002 eruption. Here, we end with a Wine Masterclass featuring Etna DOC wines, paired with a delicious lunch surrounded by nature.

Length: 09:30 – 15:30
Difficulty: Easy
What to Bring: Comfortable clothes and shoes, hat, sunscreen, wind jacket — remember, Etna’s temperatures can be 10–15°C lower than the coast.
