Vineyard Experience
The collaboration between Etna Glamping and the Benanti Winery was born from the desire to combine the pleasure of wine tasting with the beauty of doing it informally, directly among the vines, surrounded by Etna’s nature and ancient culinary traditions.
Founded in 1988, Benanti is today one of the most respected wineries on Etna — awarded Italian Winery of the Year by Gambero Rosso, listed as a Top-100 Winery by Wine & Spirits, and recognized by Wine Spectator as a pioneer of quality winemaking in the region.
Benanti is the only winery on Etna with vineyards on all four slopes of the volcano, offering our guests the chance to taste wines that fully represent the different growing zones of the Etna DOC area — a truly unique experience for wine lovers.
The vineyard in Contrada Rinazzo, on Etna’s eastern slope at 800 meters above sea level, covers 7 hectares of steep terraces supported by dry lava stone walls, overlooking the Ionian Sea. Here, only Carricante grapes are grown, benefiting from the cool sea breeze and humid climate, which ensure a slow ripening and give the wines their signature acidity, freshness and aromatic finesse. This is the only corner of the Etna DOC where the prestigious Etna Bianco Superiore is produced.
Walking through the vines, guests can discover the traditional Alberello Etneo vine training system, with bush-trained vines supported by chestnut stakes. Along the way to the small lava stone house, once an old equipment shed and now a cosy tasting room, guests can see the ancient well and enjoy panoramic views stretching from Taormina and Calabria’s coastline in the north, to Catania and Siracusa in the south, and the impressive South-East Crater and Valle del Bove towards the volcano.
In a world where everything can be seen online, this hidden corner of Sicily surprises visitors with what cannot be shown on a screen: the scent of food and wine, the warmth of cooking over an open fire, the pleasure of living an experience shaped by the elements — fire, earth and sea.
These moments are reserved for true lovers of slow travel and authentic connections. Here, hospitality means feeling part of nature and local Sicilian traditions, creating a small oasis where every detail protects and celebrates our unique territory.
